Basic Stone Ground Loaf

Basic Stone Ground Loaf

  • 1kg (4 Cups) Swartland Stone Ground Flour
  • 20g Instant Yeast
  • 45ml (3 tbs) Sugar
  • 10ml (2 tbs) Salt
  • 650ml Luke Warm Water (±43°C/110°F)
  • 45ml (3 tbs) Olive Oil or Melted Butter


Method:

  1. Mix Sugar & Instant Yeast with Luke warm water. Let it rest for approx. 20 – 30min for yeast to activate.
  2. Mix rest of the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  3. Add yeast mixture and fats to dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Knead dough until smooth and slightly sticky to the touch.
  5. Divide dough in 2 equal pieces and place in greased loaf pans or on greased baking tray and cover with a cloth.
  6. Leave in a warm place to let the dough rise (double in size) approx. 1 hour
  7. Bake bread in a preheated oven (180°C/350°F) for 40-45mins.
